You will arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport today in accordance with Sri Lanka 8 Days Beach & East Coast Tour arrangements. Your Pekoe Lanka Tours representative will meet you at the airport and warmly welcome you. You will then board your private vehicle and drive to the historical city of Sigiriya, stopping first to visit the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawala.
Pinnawala is a special place to observe elephants. The Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation established the facility in 1975 to provide care for young elephants that had been abandoned or lost in the wild. These adorable creatures are taken in, brought up, and reproduced in captivity. It is home to the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.
The best time to visit is between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. when the young elephants receive their daily baths and milk feedings in the nearby river. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see these tamed elephants having fun.
Evening: Check into your hotel in Sigiriya and relax.
Overnight: Sigiriya
On the second day, you will climb the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, renowned as the “Lion Rock.” Under King Kashyapa, Sigiriya served as the administrative center and capital of ancient Sri Lanka. The fortress features a massive lion-shaped entrance halfway up the cliff. UNESCO has declared its ruins a World Heritage Site.
Next, visit the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple (Dambulla Golden Temple), the largest and best-preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains stunning murals covering 2,100 m² and 157 statues. The massive rock ceiling and golden statue add to its natural wonder.
Continue to the Spice Garden in Matale, a fragrant paradise where you can learn about spices used in food and medicine. Then stop at the beautiful Matale Muthumariamman Temple, a vibrant Hindu shrine dedicated to the goddess of rain and fertility.
Proceed to Kandy to visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) — one of Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist sites. In the evening, enjoy the spectacular Kandy Cultural Dance Show, featuring traditional Kandyan dances, colorful costumes, and Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.
Overnight: Kandy
On the third day, travel towards the highlands, enjoying breathtaking mountain and waterfall views. Stop at the impressive Ramboda Falls (109 meters), one of Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfalls.
Next, visit the Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden, Sri Lanka’s oldest tea institution. Enjoy a free factory tour and tea tasting. Continue to the charming town of Nuwara Eliya, stopping at Gregory Lake (optional pony ride and lunch) and the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office.
You will then be transferred to Nanu Oya Railway Station for the scenic train ride to Ella — one of the most beautiful and romantic rail journeys in the world. Enjoy stunning views of green tea plantations, misty mountains, bridges, and lush valleys. Chat with fellow passengers and enjoy local snacks sold on the train.
Overnight: Ella
On the fourth day, explore Ella’s highlights before heading to Arugam Bay. Hike the short trail to Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views over tea plantations. Visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a stunning colonial-era viaduct known as the “Bridge in the Sky.”
Continue to Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka’s premier surfing destination. This laid-back beach town features a beautiful crescent-shaped bay and a relaxed vibe that attracts surfers and travelers from around the world.
During your four days in Arugam Bay, you can enjoy the following exciting activities:
- Climb Elephant Rock at Elephant Point for stunning views and beautiful sunsets (20-minute hike).
- Visit the stunning white Pottuvil Temple among the sand dunes.
- Surf at famous spots like Main Point, Baby Point, Peanut Farm Beach, and Elephant Point (peak season June–August).
- Take a relaxing 2-hour lagoon safari at Kottukal or Urani lagoons to spot elephants and other wildlife.
- Explore the ancient Kudumbigala Monastery, a forest rock temple offering panoramic views (45-minute drive + hike).

You will have ample time to enjoy all these experiences at your own pace.
